After completion of Law in 1967 he enrolled with the Bar in 1968 and joined Aiyar & Dolia. With utter dedication, hard work and sincerity he created a niche for himself in the world of law which resulted in his being offered partnership in the firm. He rose to become a Senior Advocate in the year 1995. He held the post of Additional Advocate General from the year 2004 to 2006. Sri A L Somayaji served as the Advocate General, Government of Tamilnadu from the March 2013 until August 2016. He is currently legal advisor to various Corporates. He is in the Editorial Board of ‘Supreme Today’, ‘Current Tamilnadu Cases’ and ‘Labour Law Journal’.
Sri A L Somayaji also serves as Director in the Boards of High Energy Batteries (India) Limited and ESVI International (Engineers and Exporters) Limited.
